Dr. Christine Choi, DMA

VIOLIN/VIOLA

Korean-American violinist Christine Choi gave her concerto debut at the age of eleven and has appeared in concerts throughout the United States, Canada, Italy, and China, in venues such as Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, Boston Symphony Hall, and NEC’s Jordan Hall.

As a chamber musician, Dr. Choi was a Guest Artist at Music in the Vineyards in Napa Valley performing with members of the San Francisco Symphony and awarded the Janet Spoor Achievement Award Fellowship at the Madeline Island Music Festival. In 2015, she became an artist member of the Music for Food concert series in Boston and has also performed at the Mannes Festival in New York, The Beethoven Research Center at Boston University, and Boston University’s Center for New Music in collaboration with American composer, Joan Tower. As an orchestral musician, she served as Assistant Concertmaster of the Santa Cruz Symphony and has performed with the Banff Festival Orchestra, Hwaum Boston Chamber Orchestra, Cantata Singers, and Santa Rosa Symphony.

Born in Los Angeles, Dr. Choi began violin lessons at age six and entered the San Francisco Conservatory of Music Pre-College Division at age eight where she was an Honorary Distinction student. She received her Bachelor of Music degree from SFCM as the recipient of the Ruth and Jo Blackmore Scholarship, and her Master’s degree from Manhattan School of Music under the tutelage of Lucie Robert. She continued her studies at Mannes College of Music pursuing her Professional Studies Diploma, then at Boston University, where she studied with Bayla Keyes and received her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in String Performance. Her chamber music mentors include members of the American, Juilliard, and Muir Quartets.

Dr. Choi has previously served as a teaching assistant for Bayla Keyes at Boston University and Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra, and orchestral coach at the University of California, Santa Cruz. She is currently on faculty at the Pacific Institute of Music where she teaches violin and viola, and maintains a private studio in El Dorado Hills.
