Soprano Maryam Donovan has sung and played all over Europe, and the US, but calls San Francisco home. As a winner of the Metropolitan International Music Festival, Maryam performed at Carnegie Hall. She was featured at the Festival of New American Music in Sacramento performing the songs of composer Kurt Erickson. Maryam also sang the role of Elmish in the new world opera Ammon and the King by composer Deon Nielsen Price. And she recorded the recently released album of Spirituals with Metropolitan Opera Star Baritone Lester Lynch.

Maryam was the Music Director for Presidio Middle School’s production of Schoolhouse Rock. Currently, she assists in the Opera Lab at SOTA in San Francisco. Maryam was Music Director for SFUSD’s Lafayette School musicals for seven years. She has also won several awards for her singing, including the New York Metropolitan Opera National Council Competition.

Maryam plays the Prison Diva in Michael Meehans’s indie comedy/crime film Hey Monster, Hands Off My City. She recorded the world premiere of Carlos Franzetti’s opera Corpus Evita at Skywalker, singing the title role Eva Perón in this haunting work, nominated for a Grammy as Best Contemporary Classical Composition. Maryam also played La Diva in Teatro Zinzanni, San Francisco’s long-running comedy extravaganza- singing arias and duets with the legendary Joan Baez. And she sings on the soundtrack of Spy Kids recorded at Skywalker Sound with the San Francisco Symphony.

Maryam appears with regional opera companies in New York, Europe and the San Francsico Bay Area. She has sung the roles of Countess Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro, Donna Anna in Don Giovanni, Mimi in La Bohème, and Leonora in La forza del destino, to name a few. Concerts include Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis at Carnegie Hall, contemporary choral pieces by composers Kurt Erickson, David Conte, and David Garner, and works by Tchaikovsky, Puccini, Aaron Copland, Virgil Thompson, and others. Maryam is an active recitalist, performing in Los Angeles, New York, and London, singing Classical and Contemporary music, Traditional Persian Songs, and American Spirituals.
